I’m a little daunted going into this. Already on iTunes and throughout the music
First of all I’m happy to report that the album is a welcome departure to what is being pumped out in droves on the music scene; the obsession with all things synths etc and dance infused indie rock. Sainthood has embraced electronic arrangements as well as synths but not in an overly obvious way as other albums have. Arrow opens Sainthood and I can easily recognise this as Tegan and Sara. Reports are that Sainthood is much different to Con but, controversially, I have to disagree. The two sister’s harmonies feature strongly giving it that infectious edge. Don’t Rush is a good tune and a winner from my point of view. First single to be released is Hell, power chords all aboard and I’m sold. Red Belt is a slower pace with lyrics that piqued my interest, “slow it down, you have a tendency to rush back into your past… Kneel to condition all the feelings that you feel….” A short song but still great nevertheless.
Overall the album still has that quirky sense of style that ranges from deep and meaningful to fun and simple. No songs particularly capture me like the single Con did on the last album. Still I would rate the album 3.5 out of 5 stars
